I can’t change the name of a class

Edited

If the class name will not take an edit, it is because that class is rostered through Google, Clever, Microsoft Teams or ClassLink: the name belongs to that platform, so Typing.com keeps it read-only. You still have two ways to get the name you want.

  • Rename it yourself, with a nickname: open the class, click Class Settings, and on the Details tab you will find Class Nickname sitting just under the grayed-out Class Name. Type what you would rather call it and click Save All Changes. That is the name your Teacher Portal shows from then on. There is a fuller walkthrough here.

  • Change it at the source: to change the real name, the one your roster provider holds, ask whoever manages that data for your school - usually your IT administrator. They have the permissions; you do not.

  • Either way you are done. A nickname shows up the moment you save it; a name changed at the source arrives on Typing.com after the nightly sync.
