Understand the "Lessons" Tab (Student)

If this is your first time learning to type, we recommend starting at the Beginner level. However, if you already have some experience, you can choose a higher level at any time.  You can even change the curriculum you are using. To change the curriculum, follow these steps here.

The left-hand column groups everything you can practice. What appears there follows the curriculum you are on - the grade button in the top menu shows which one that is - so your list may differ from a classmate's. On the 5th Grade curriculum, for instance:

• Learn to Type - the keyboarding lessons themselves, in units such as Learn the Keys 1 and 2.

• Applied Typing - typing practice built around other subjects: Cross Curricular, Creative Writing, Test Prep.

• Beyond Typing - Technology Foundations, Digital Citizenship and AI Literacy.

• Computer Applications - word processing, spreadsheets and presentations.

• Adaptive Practice - Your Problem Keys, drills built from the keys you actually miss.

A crown marks PLUS content. If your school has PLUS you can open those units as normal; without it they stay locked. Ask your teacher which you have.

The strip along the top carries your average speed, average accuracy and typing time, and the daily goal dial.

• Change Stats: Stats For starts on All Time. Open it to switch to Today, Yesterday, This Week or Last Week.

• Change Daily Goal: click the gear inside the Daily Goal dial.

The dialog reads I will type for … today. Pick anything from 5 minutes to 60 minutes - or No Goal - and click Set Goal.

Pro-Tip: If you encounter difficulty changing your daily goal, it likely indicates that your account is linked to a teacher's account. In this case, you'll need to reach out to your teacher to modify your daily goal time. Alternatively, you can request your teacher to remove you from the class, allowing you to adjust your daily goal independently.

If you are in a class, the line above the lesson list shows its name and a Class Scoreboard link.

The scoreboard ranks your class by Fastest or Most Active - and lists each place with speed, accuracy and typing time. You need at least 60 seconds of typing to appear, and the table refreshes every couple of minutes.

Pro-Tip:The Class Scoreboard shows the current week's activity. Scores reset every Sunday evening. 

Your teacher can switch the Scoreboard off, so if you are in a class and cannot see it, that is why.
