Easily edit a Student’s Password, Name and Email (Teacher)
Forgotten passwords? Typo in a student's name? Wrong email address? No problem! Teachers can help students reset their information directly from the Teacher Portal. Here’s how you can keep things running smoothly:
Important: If students use Google SSO, you can't reset their passwords. They must follow Google's password recovery process.
Pro-Tip 1: if your students sign in with Google SSO you cannot edit their details from the Teacher Portal at all. They change them in their Google account, and you re-sync to pick the change up.
Pro-Tip 2: For Clever or ClassLink users, edit information in those platforms first and then wait for the account to re-sync. Changes will sync overnight.
Log in to your Teacher Portal here.
There are two ways to reach a student's settings, and both end in the same window. Each is numbered from the top.
From the Search Bar
Step 1: Click the search bar, type the student's name and pick them from the list.
Step 2: On their page, click Student Settings.
Step 3: The Details tab holds Username, Password, First Name, Last Name and Email.
Step 4: Click Save All Changes.
From the Class Roster
Step 1: Click Classes in the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Open the class the student is in.
Step 3: Open the Students tab.
Step 4: Tick the box beside the student, then click Student Settings above the roster. It is grayed out until you select someone.
Step 5: Make your changes and click Save All Changes.
If you cannot see a password: tick Clear-text student passwords in Class Settings → Advanced Options. Worth a thought first: it makes every student's password readable to anyone who can see that panel or a printed roster.
With it unticked, passwords are stored encrypted - you cannot read them or print them on a roster.
That's it! Either route gets you to the same place. 😊
