How to Delete a Class (Teacher)
Ready to clean up your classes? Whether you’re using Typing.com directly or syncing with Google Classroom, we’ve got you covered. Before starting, ensure you have deleted or moved the students to another class. Let’s dive in!
Pro-Tip: If you’re using Google Classroom, skip ahead to "Removing Classes Synced with Google Classroom." Note: You can follow the same steps if you're using Microsoft Teams or Clever Library.
Pro-Tip: For Clever or ClassLink users, adjust sharing rules to stop sharing the classes in those platforms first and wait for Typing.com to re-sync overnight.
Before you delete - consider archiving instead. Deleting a class is permanent and cannot be undone. Archiving takes the class out of your active list but keeps it, so you can look at it later or restore it at any time. Any students on PLUS seats who aren't in another active class will have their PLUS removed, freeing up those seats. Archive is a button on the Classes page, right next to Delete.
Step 1: Log in to your Teacher Portal HERE.
Step 2: Click on Classes.
Step 3: Select the class(es) you wish to delete.
Step 4: Once you've selected the class(es), click Delete at the top of the page. Selecting a class reveals Class Settings, Archive and Delete as buttons.
Step 5: A Delete Class box asks you to confirm, warning that once deleted the class can't be recovered. Type the word CONFIRM into the field, then click Delete.
Note: A class has to be empty before it can be deleted. If it still has students you'll see "You can not delete a class with students. You must first move or delete the students." To empty it, open the class, go to its Students tab, select the students and use the More Actions menu to move or delete them.
Removing Classes Synced with Google Classroom
If you synced your classes using Google Classroom and you’re trying to delete classes following the steps above, you will encounter an error stating you cannot delete the classes because you’ve synced them with Google Classroom. In that case, do the following:
Step 1: Log in to your Teacher Portal HERE.
Step 2: Click on Classes.
Step 3: Click Sync with Google Classroom.
Step 4: Every Google Classroom class you can sync is listed. A class you already sync shows Synced with a green tick; one you don't shows Add with a plus. Click the green Synced marker on the class you want to stop syncing and it turns red, reading Removing.
Step 5: Click Sync Selected Classes to finalize.
That's it! Now you know how to delete your classes, whether directly or through Google Classroom. 😊
