My Class Doesn’t Have a Join Code

Edited

If your class has no join code, there are two reasons it can happen. Here is how to tell which one you are looking at.

  • Your classes are rostered elsewhere: a class synced from Google Classroom, Clever, Microsoft Teams or ClassLink is managed in that platform. The Self-Join Settings panel in Class Settings carries a notice instead: "Self-join is not available for Google Classroom classes. You must update your roster via Google Classroom." Add, remove or move students there instead. Clever and ClassLink re-sync overnight; for Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams you can bring the change across at once with Sync with Google Classroom on the Classes page.

  • The code has been cleared: on a class you manage yourself, the self-join link is switched off whenever the Self-Join Code field is empty. Open Class Settings > Details, type a code into Self-Join Code under Self-Join Settings, and click Save All Changes. The link rebuilds itself around whatever you type.

Once the class is rostered in the right place, or the code is back in the field, your students will have a link to join with.
