Live Activity: Watching Your Class in Real Time
Live Activity shows you who is working in Typing.com right now, what each of them is doing, and how fast and how accurately they are typing while they do it. Live Activity requires PLUS.
What Live Activity shows
Live Activity is the second item in the left-hand menu, between Dashboard and Classes. The page keeps itself current without a reload, and says so under its heading: "Automatically updates every 30 seconds".
The table has four columns - Student, Class, Current Activity and Last Active - and all four sort.
Reading a row
Current Activity names what the student is doing. A student in a lesson gets the lesson named, as Typing lesson 'J, F, and Space', and a student moving around the site reads Browsing the site.
While a student is in a lesson, a second line under that gives their speed, their accuracy and how far through the lesson they are, as 96 WPM | 100% acc | 9% complete. Before their first keystroke it reads Starting Lesson instead.
The student's name is a link to that student's own page, and the class name is a link to the class.
Watching one class
The dropdown above the table starts on All Classes. Choose a class and the table narrows to it, and the class goes into the address bar with it.
Seeing everyone, online or not
Include Offline Students, the checkbox beside that dropdown, adds every student in your classes to the table, each with Offline as their activity and no last-active time. The students who are working stay at the top.
When the table is empty
With nobody working, the page reads "No students are currently online". A student who has stopped stays on the list for a while afterwards, with Last Active counting up, so an empty table means nobody has been in Typing.com recently rather than nobody is in it this second.
If a student is typing and their row does not appear, My Student is Typing but I don't see it in my Teacher Portal is the place to start.
