One of my students already has an account. How can he join my class?

Edited

A student who already has a Typing.com account does not need a new one. There are two ways to get them onto your roster, and both start from the same button.

  • Share the self-join link, or just the code: open the class and click Class Join Code in the top right. That copies the whole link; the code itself is printed on the button. A student who opens the link picks Use My Existing Typing.com Account and signs in. A student who would rather type the code opens Account Settings from the menu under their name, enters it in Join Code under Join a Classroom, and clicks Join Classroom. The full walkthrough, including approving the students who ask to join, is in Use the Student Self-Join Link.

  • Unless your classes are rostered elsewhere: a class synced from Google Classroom, Clever, Microsoft Teams or ClassLink has no join code, and the Self-Join Settings panel in Class Settings carries a notice instead: "Self-join is not available for Google Classroom classes. You must update your roster via Google Classroom." Add the student in that platform instead. Clever and ClassLink re-sync overnight; for Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams, Sync with Google Classroom on the Classes page brings the change across at once.

That’s it! Your student will be successfully added to your class. If you need any further assistance, our support team is always here to help. Happy teaching!
