Approve Students Who Request to Join Your Class
A student who uses your self-join link or your class join code does not land on your roster by themselves - they wait for you to let them in. This article shows you where those requests collect and how to approve them.
Step 1: Log in to your Teacher Portal here.
Step 2: Click Classes in the left-hand menu. While anyone is waiting, a blue banner across the page counts them and ends in Review now.
Step 3: Click Review now. It opens a page headed Students Requesting to Join.
Step 4: The table lists one row per request: the student, the class they asked to join, and when they asked. Tick the box beside each student you want to deal with, or the box in the header row to take the whole list at once.
Step 5: Click Approve Students to let them in, or Reject Students to turn them away. Both stay grayed out until you have ticked at least one row.
Step 6: Approved students join the class roster, and from then on their work counts towards the class alongside everybody else's.
When nothing is waiting
The page is there whether or not anyone has asked to join, at teachers.typing.com/pending-joins. With an empty queue it reads No Pending Joins, under the line "There are currently no student join requests for your classes." - which is your answer when a student says they have joined and you cannot find them on the roster.
Pro-Tip: If no requests are reaching you at all, check how your students are being pointed at the class - Use the Student Self-Join Link covers sharing the link, and Self-Join Link VS Join Code covers the code a student types into their own account.
That's it! Your students are in the class and ready to type.
