What's in Cross Curricular 1 and 2

Cross Curricular 1 and Cross Curricular 2 are two typing units whose passages come from the rest of the school day. This article says what separates them, where they are, and what a lesson asks a student to do.

Both units require PLUS, and both carry a gold crown in the curriculum rail to say so. They are the first two units of the Applied Typing group in every grade-level curriculum, Kindergarten through 12th Grade and Adult Learner. One film covers the pair. The overview card at the head of either unit's lesson list opens it, and it is on YouTube as Cross Curricular.

The rail prints the difference under each unit's name. Cross Curricular 1 is World and the Arts; Cross Curricular 2 is STEM.

The sections bear that out. Cross Curricular 1 is Social Studies, Geography, Health, Arts & Music, World Languages and Life Skills, and the youngest curricula carry fewer of them: five of the six at Kindergarten, four at 1st Grade.

Cross Curricular 2 is Science and Math, with a Coding section added from 6th Grade.

Both are sized for the curriculum they sit in. Cross Curricular 1 runs from 14 to 19 lessons and Cross Curricular 2 from 7 to 17, depending on the grade.

These are typing lessons: the screen shows a passage drawn from another subject and the student types it. At 5th Grade, Cross Curricular 1 runs from The Thirteen Colonies to Budgeting and Saving, and Cross Curricular 2 from Properties of Matter to Coordinate Graphing.

Being typing lessons, they are graded the way typing lessons are, on the speed and accuracy thresholds set under Typing Lessons on the Grading tab of Class Settings. Set Grading for your Classes has the steps.

Either unit can be switched off for a class, or expanded and switched off lesson by lesson, on the Lessons tab of Class Settings. Hide Specific Content and Lessons has the steps.
