Onboarding Document for District Admins

Districts: Integration Options

  • Standard username and password

  • Clever integration

  • ClassLink integration

  • Google Classroom

  • Google SSO

  • Microsoft Teams

Tips: You can only choose one type of integration. Once you opt for one of the integrations listed above, you must have admins, teachers, and students login to Typing.com the same way. If you don’t login to Typing.com using the chosen method of integration, the student data and teacher account will not be synced and there will be no student progress visible in the district account.

Standard Username and Password

Step 1: Go to https://teachers.typing.com/signup. The first screen asks What is your role in education? - choose District Administrator.

Step 2: Click Schools in the left-hand menu, then Add a School. The window asks for the school's name and address and for a Unique School ID, and commits with Create School. Adding the school is what gives it access to the district's licenses.

Step 3: Click Faculty in the left-hand menu, then Invite Faculty and Invite Teachers. The window offers a Copy Invite Link you can share, or a box for work email addresses, one per line, which you send on with Review Invites. Invite School Admin is in the same menu. A district admin also gets Invite District Admin and Invite Billing Admin. Invite Teachers to My School/District walks through it.

Note: if you see "This account already exists in a different district and can not be invited.", email support@typing.com and we will sort it out for you.

Step 4: Your teachers create their classes and add their students - see Create a New Class (Teacher) and How to Know the Best Way to Add Students.

Step 5: Ask your students to go to https://www.typing.com/student/login and log in with their username and password. As soon as they do, a license is assigned to them and their accounts become PLUS, ad-free accounts.

A district admin sees the district's figures on the Reports page: School Usage and Teacher Usage under Usage Reports, and Activity By School and Activity By Grade under Activity Reports. Reports about a particular class or student are read in the Teacher role, and to open a class that is not yours you have to add yourself to it: open the class, go to its Teachers tab and use Add Teachers.

A district admin also gets District-wide Settings, from the account menu in the top right. Its Default Class Settings apply to new classes and to existing classes that have not had their own settings adjusted, so games, typing tests, the scoreboard, password rules and lesson progression can be set once for the whole district rather than class by class.

Clever Integration

Step 1: You do not need to create a Typing.com district account. Set the classes and students up on the Clever side, add the Typing.com application in Clever and share the data with us. Clever FAQs and Sync With Clever (Teacher/Admin) have the detail.

Step 2: Wait 24 hours for the account to sync. After that your students can log in to Typing.com through Clever, and their accounts become PLUS as they do.

ClassLink Integration

Step 1: As with Clever, there is no Typing.com district account to create. Your roster is built in ClassLink and the Typing.com app is shared from there - see ClassLink FAQs and Sync With ClassLink (Teacher/Admin).

Step 2: Allow 24 hours for the first sync to finish. Your students then reach Typing.com from ClassLink, and become PLUS as they start logging in.

Google Classroom Integration

Step 1: Go to https://teachers.typing.com/signup. The first screen asks What is your role in education? - choose District Administrator. On the sign-up screen that follows, sign up with Google.

Step 4: Each teacher syncs from their own account and decides which Google Classroom classes come across to Typing.com.

Step 5: Go to https://teachers.typing.com/login, click Google under Log in with:, then click Classes in the left-hand menu and Sync with Google Classroom above the class table. The window Select Google Classroom Classes to Sync opens with one card per Google Classroom class; click each class you want so it reads Syncing, then click Sync Selected Classes at the foot of the window. Sync With Google Classroom (Teacher) covers it step by step.

Step 6: Ask your students to go to https://www.typing.com/student/login and click Google under Log in with:. As soon as they do, their accounts become PLUS, ad-free accounts.

Google SSO

Step 1: If you want to log in with Google but not use Google Classroom, go to https://teachers.typing.com/signup, choose District Administrator and sign up with Google. Add your schools on Typing.com yourself. Each teacher creates their own classes, and students join them through the self-join link with their Google accounts - see Use the Student Self-Join Link (Teacher).

Step 2: Ask your students to go to https://www.typing.com/student/login and click Google under Log in with:. As soon as they do, their accounts become PLUS, ad-free accounts.
